Day pupils are referred to the school with written support from a range of professionals. Placements are temporary for example whilst a child regains strength after major surgery or to enable monitoring of medical treatment, or to support a child through trauma. Children placed with us have a variety of medical conditions including Cerebral Palsy, Severe Asthma and Heart Conditions, or mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, phobia or eating disorders. The needs of the pupils with mental health problems, which lead them to display aggression to others, cannot be met at Pinderfields Hospital School. All pupils attending as Day Pupils have an individual Plan setting out their personal targets. Some pupils have Statements of Special Educational Needs and all pupils have reviews to ensure that their placement is appropriate and that targets are being met. Pupils receive a broad and balanced alternative curriculum. Whilst we will support GSCE programmes, they are not instigated by Pinderfields Hospital School. Accreditation through ASDAN Youth Award and Key Skills are offered. The school is a registered examination centre. We believe that they should experience a wide range of sporting activities; theatre trips and other educational and residential visits. | ||||
In addition to pupils accessing core curriculum subjects, rooms are resourced according to the subject taught and all students have sufficient time to explore art, design, food technology and ICT. |

| The ASDAN Youth Award Scheme forms a major part of the curriculum at KS3 and KS4. The scheme allows each individual pupil to work at their own pace. It is modular and therefore more flexible to match the needs of our pupils. It is a nationally recognised scheme, which allows for movement between schools or from school into further education. Our pupils will be able to study at Bronze, Silver or Gold levels and will develop skills and gain experience in such areas as communication, problem solving, ICT, expressive arts, environmental studies, working with others and application of number. | ![]() |

We have a school minibus, which enables children to use the local environment, and the opportunity to go on residential visits. In past years pupils have stayed at York, Clun, Manchester Youth Hostels and Castres, Wakefields French twin town as part of the educational programme. Visits have included Bradford Colour Museum, the Museum of Film and Photography, local theatres and restaurants. The school offers a range of sporting activities for pupils. We recognise that all pupils are different and the majority of our work is in developing personal performance, techniques and skills. The school is affiliated to Disability Sport England and pupils may take part in regional events for swimming, athletics, boccia and national events. |
